Hello 2015! When my Day Designer planner arrived, the New Year felt so far off. But here I am thinking about what the year ahead will hold. Each blank page presents the possibility of a new adventure in life, work or travel. And after the holidays, I must say I feel refreshed, relaxed and ready to take on the New Year.
Cosmos, fritillaria, garden roses, anemones, dahlias, sweet peas… Just a few of the flowers Jessica Hunter shares when I ask her what her favourite flower is. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon a group of girls gathered over flowers, foliage and food at a winter wreath making workshop hosted by Jessica Hunter, founder of A Fine Medley, and Katie Benfey, photographer and calligrapher. We arrived at In Fine Feather's studio to find vases full of freshly foraged abundance: twigs, winter greens, pods, grasses and berries. The afternoon was spent arranging, sipping mulled wine and snacking on a savoury spread of cheese and charcuterie boards. And everyone went home with a unique and thoughtfully arranged wreath from the abundance of the season. I was so delighted to chat with Jessica after the workshop to learn about her journey to becoming a florist, her love of foraging and the inspiration she finds in her friends.
It's certainly felt like winter crept up on us the past couple weeks. And with the changing season, comes a change in my skincare regimen. As I'm sure many of you can relate to, during the cold and dry months the wind chill leaves my skin feeling parched and sensitive. In search of the perfect skin fix, I decided to reach out to Julie Clark, a certified holistic esthetician and aromatherapist. "As the weather changes, so does your skin and so should your routine," she explained. Having struggled with sensitive skin herself, Julie founded Province Apothecary, a collection of handcrafted organic skincare and perfumes.
This year marked the Art Gallery of Hamilton's centennial year and it has celebrated with some incredible exhibitions. Talk about a milestone for the city and our arts scene! On Sunday, the Gallery hosted their opening event for the fall exhibitions, including The World Is an Apple: The Still Lifes of Paul Cézanne and Painting Hamilton. Wondering what to wear to an event like this? Having attended a number of exhibition openings, I thought I'd share a few style tips to help you put together the perfect outfit!
Finding time to ‘stop and smell the roses’ may sound simple, but is often easier said than done. When we’re on the go, we rarely stop and enjoy life’s beautiful, everyday moments. But there is beauty to be found all around you if you are willing to slow down for a moment to look. Take time each day to enjoy the city you live in, the people you spend time with and the simple things that make you happy. While I, too, am always on the go, I try to cherish the little moments and little things. I’ve partnered with Prada to share the daily delights that bring beauty to my everyday and a smile to my face.
