We love the month of December. December means the holidays are near, and it gives us an excuse to decorate, host and attend multiple parties. We're always admiring Christmas decor ideas in our fave design mags. See here, here and here. But we're kind of on a budget, and while we'd love to have Tiffany blue linens, sometimes PC just has to do. This past weekend, Stephanie and Adam hosted a holiday get-together in their new home. It was très fun, (okay, maybe we're biased), and impressively all the food was gone at the end of the night (and there was a lot to begin with).
Stephanie has always loved her parents' home during the Christmas season. Her mom is the ultimate hostess and always finds gorgeous and different ways to dress up her dining room table. While on a holiday home tour in November, Stephanie got the idea to use table runners instead of a tablecloth on her dark pine dining table. Layed on the table horizontally, these simple white patterned linens by Calvin Klein Home were the perfect starting point for her place settings. She decorated her place settings with snowflakes and small glass balls in variations of blue, silver, white and cream.
A dramatic arrangement of oversized silver glass balls in a large modern bowl made the perfect centerpiece, comlimented by tall classic candlesticks on each side.
Nothing says winter like crisp white and deep greens. Who doesn't love the look of fresh fallen snow on pine trees? For her floral arrangements, Stephanie decided to go the D.I.Y. route and bundle white baby roses (her favourite) with pine and white cedar.
Stephanie's boyfriend Adam was pretty happy to transform their servery into a well stocked bar. As a housewarming gift, they received this gorgeous crystal decanter and rocks glasses from Birks. So very Don Draper. And so very generous of amazing friends. They love to keep a collection of wine in house, their favourite being vintage Ruffino. Wine always makes for an elegant hostess gift, especially when its from a local winery. We love this limited edition bottle of Ontario black currant port wine and Sibling Rivalry white wine from the Niagara peninsula that that were gifted by friends.
Our favourite part of a party is the food (obvi!). We were too busy eating to take photos, but we're huge fans of charcuterie boards with different kinds of cheese. Our picks are the sharp flavour of aged Canadian white cheddar and the bold taste of Le Rustique Camembert cheese.
Jacklyn's birthday was on Saturday, so when the clock struck midnight Stephanie surprised her with this gorgeous apple pie. (We think pie is the new cupcake.) But the one pastry Stephanie was determined to find was the best macarons (yes, thats one "o") in the city. Apparently macarons are not easy to make, and after reading way too many reviews (critiques) on bakeries that make macarons, Stephanie decided on Sweet Celebrations Pattiserie. OH man! They were unreal. Four flavours, each entirely different -- passionfruit, Morello cherry, salted caramel and Niagara honey. We kind of want to eat them everyday now.
