Tucked away in the heart of James North, The Brain is the unique vision of owners Jeremy Greenspan, Heath South and Brad Chichakian. Heather was so gracious to let us poke around, and while we did we found interesting parts to this space at every turn.
Not featured, are wonderful tapestries that tell stories, alongside decor that was no doubt acquired among many world travels. We've often wondered how to incorporate textile art into your home (a definite future project), and The Brain exemplified it so well.
We particularly admired the attention to detail and bits of humour hidden in the artwork at The Brain. Both the sign and light fixtures were commissioned to local artists Brian Kelley and Matt Pelletier.
Perhaps the best part of the bar is its inviting atmosphere. At our first visit, a group of girls were knitting in the lounge area. The Brain hosts knitting and euchre night every Wednesday. But we recommend you pop in for movie matinee Sundays. Jeremy has the most impressive collection of science fiction and horror films, so there will be no shortage of greats. On our list: the 1988 classic Pin, directed by Sandor Stern.
