Pure Home Couture
Located on the second floor of a historic building, Pure Home Couture overlooks bustling Locke Street. Generous windows bathe the store in sunlight, and while we could use one hundred synonyms to describe the shop, its just darn pretty. When you first reach the top of the stairs, the high wood beamed ceilings and gorgeous chandeliers make a grand impression. Antique tables and French armoires fill the vast space, each with a different line of products ranging from bath and beauty to dishware and linens.
Owners Abby Karak-McDuffee and Steven McDuffee pay special attention to detail, and showcase the collections in an elegant fashion. Abby sources vintage and antique pieces from estate sales and gives new life to them by sanding, hand painting and distressing them in areas that would naturally wear over time. She looks for French inspired finishes, cabriole type legs and curves. Like us, she shares an affection for vintage. Benjamin Moore's Monterey White, London Stone and French Grey are amoung her choice paint colours. "All reminiscent of Paris a la 1950 and French country living" she says.
These Tocca Eau de Parfums are irresistible. We love the scents Stella and Florence.
Quebec's Blue Lavande collection is unique in that it is the only Canadian lavender producer with international certification. All the products are made with 100% pure lavender essential oil. We love this lavender honey from the Cuizine collection. You'll also find the Être line featuring hand creams, lip balm and body milk.
ElizabethW bath salts come in a variety of fragrances from sweat tea and tuberose to neroli chamomile. The soothing aromas are certain to enhance your relaxing bath.
The boutique houses glamorous jewellery lines like these Swarovski crystal rings and baubles by Toronto based designer Rebekah Price.
The Tokyo Milk collection features vintage sepia-toned illustrations on their packaging. The fragrances, soaps and greeting cards are fitting for hostess and housewarming gifts, but we suggest you treat yourself to the bubble bath.
We've already voiced our loves of hats, and these hair accessories by Nicole & Co. of Montreal offer just as much sophistication and elegance.
Throughout the shop, you'll find beautiful time-worn furniture pieces including a handsome grandfather clock. The details of this French, antique style desk would add so much character to a home office. When we ask Abby about her love of antique pieces, she responds "I think my love affair with vintage reflects my respect for natural evolution and the worn grandeur of faded elegance." We couldn't agree more.
