We have a crush on Vancouver. That's right, the whole City. We've been discovering so many wonderful designers and shops there, we feel we need to plan a visit soon. Last week we gave you a peak at Dace, one of our favourite West coast labels. Then we were invited to attend the f/w11 show of designer Treana Peake's label Obakki in Gastown at the end of the month. But what we can't get enough of right now are these beautiful leather bags (made with love!) by Vancouver designer Erin Templeton. When they arrived at our step, our hearts went pitter patter. Made in-house at the historic Modernize Tailors building (she took over the space when they relocated), the bags are all made locally, by hand. Stephanie's favourite is the basic Tomboy in tanned cinnamon elk, and Jacklyn's is the Side Saddle lined in gingham. We can't wait to one day visit her open production studio.

Made with locally tanned leather or reclaimed vintage leathers, the bags are timeless in their design and appeal. We love the understated, functional styles, with minimal hardware and embellishments. And its hard to resist the impossibly soft leather (its like butter, seriously). Just hold one in your hands, and you'll instantly fall in love. Featured below is the chocolate buffalo  Mountain Mama in locally tanned elk. It's a heavyweight leather, and each is unique with its knicks and imperfections. You really feel as though you've found a piece with character and history. And its crafted with such quality and care you just know they will get more beautiful with age.

Erin also crafts a line of recycled and reworked leather bags. Environmentally conscious, she buys old leather from collectors, warehouses, garage sales and thrift stores, keeping similar colours together. Think pants, jackets, and any other leather pieces she can repurpose. She conditions them to seem new again, before hand cutting and sewing each piece. They come in ten styles and a variety of colours from whisky and bone to olive and emerald. Featured below is the Palooka style.

If you happen to be in the Vancouver area be sure to pop in Erin's amazing storefront and studio in historic Chinatown. You'll be sure to see some unique pieces on display. Her bags are available for purchase online.[Update!] And we just got word that White Elephant in Hamilton will be carrying them as well.
