Beauty Notes: BareMinerals

I recently had the chance to preview the BareMinerals skin care and makeup collection, including some products launching at Sephora in Canada this September. With their 3-part skin care ritual, and new line of Gen Nude lip colours and BarePro foundation, this beauty collection will give you the confidence to bare it all.

Beautiful, healthy skin starts with your actual skincare regimen. Of course, catching some extra ZZZs and hopping on the green juice bandwagon will help too. But I always suggest using products that are as natural as possible, so you can also take care of your skin from the outside in. BareMinerals believes naturally derived minerals  are effective and deliver benefits to improve your complexion and protect against environmental stressors. I'll stress that this natural beauty line is not organic, but I've reviewed the ingredient lists of some of the products I liked to see how they measured up. And I encourage you to always do this too! Trust me, your skin will thank you for it.

I am obsessed with oil cleansers in general, so of the four cleansers, Oil Obsessed seemed like the product for me. It's lightweight on your skin with easily dissolves away impurities. Plus it has a lovely scent. This cleansing oil is made up of a blend of borage, sunflower, bilberry and cucumber seed oils to nourish and sooth your skin, as well as sea salts to help purify. There are some ingredients that might make you ask "WTF is that?", so I've spelled them out for you.  Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, an emollient and Sorbeth-30 Tetraisostearate, an emulsifier are generally known to be safe and non-toxic. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative. So nothing too concerning here. If you are thinking of switching to oil cleansing products this would be one to try.

The Skinsorials Skin Polishing Grains are a perfect addition to your facial cleanser. With a mix of natural Chardonnay, rose, sweet orange peel and black rice grains plus sea salts, this natural exfoliator will buff and polish, encouraging cell turnover and refining your skin. You simply add a small amount in the palm of your hand with your cleanser and massage it gently onto your face. This product contains Microcrystalline Cellulose, a naturally occurring component found in the cell walls of plants, here specifically coming from refined wood pulp. It's basically used to add texture to the product. And Ethylhexylglycerin, a natural preservative used as an alternative to parabens.

I am not the best at colour matching when it comes to foundation. So I was thrilled to have a pro help me find my match from the 30 shades in the BarePro powder foundation collection. Mine is Champagne! Formulated with 90% vitamins and skin-matching mineral pigments it's easy to find a shade that is true to your sdkin. This powder foundation has a  a silky texture when applied and a matte, or as they say photo-ready finish.

Most of the ingredients I questioned are safe for use in cosmetic formulations. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a form of vitamin C. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is an emolliant derived from coconut oil.  Lauroyl Lysine is a naturally occuring Amino Acid  that is made from natural coconut fatty acid. Distearyldimonium Chloride is a surfactant that is relatively gentle. Pyridoxine Cyclic Phosphate is a vitamin B6 derivative known to improve skin's health. Chlorphenesin is used as a preservative because of its anti-bacterial properties. You never know. That's why I always look them up!

And last but not least, the Gen Nude lip colour line is just what I was looking for! There are so many nude shades, perfectly suited to every skin and lip tone. The Radiant Lipstick is a vegan formula, and free of parabens, sulfates or phthalates. It has naturally derived Shea, Mango and Coco butters to keep your lips nourished and hydrated. While the texture is creamy, it's not sticky. And it colour corrects to compliment your skin tone. My favourite Radiant Lipstick shade is Notorious, a warm brownish mauve. And my favourite Matte Liquid Lipstick colours are Swag, a blush mauve, and Bo$$, a dirty pink beige. Also, with these names. What'a not to love??

Come September you'll be able to find all these products in store and online at Sephora!
