Nothing gives hair that effortless look quite like deep, tousled waves. With summer fast approaching, I decided to try out a new look. About a month ago, I chopped my long hair to a shoulder-grazing lob length. With fine, straight hair, I wasn’t sure if this cut would cater to my low-maintenance lifestyle. And I will say it took some time getting used to my shorter do. But once I found the right products and styling tools, I realized how simple my hair styling routine could be. Shoppers Drug Mart is my go-to for hair products. I’m excited to partner with them to share my checklist for mastering tousled summer waves and the products you’ll need to get the look. To create this style, I’m using Nexxus New York Salon Care products. Their products are designed for hair that moves with beautiful fluidity. Watch the tutorial and read on for my tips for creating volume, movement and effortless waves with shorter hair!

Nourish your ends
I wash my hair about three times a week. Nexxus Rebalancing Shampoo is silicone-free and cleanses while rebuilding any broken protein structures in your hair. The Restoring Conditioner helps reduce any breakage and repairs the inner fiber of each strand of hair. After I wash and condition, I apply Nexxus Oil Infinite to damp hair, focusing on the ends. This helps protect from colouring and heat styling.

Create volume
Creating volume at the roots is essential, especially with fine hair that tends to fall flat. Nexxus Mousse Plus is lightweight and gives my hair that extra lift when I blow dry it.  I use a boar bristle brush when drying. I find it gentler on heat-styled hair.

Section hair and curl
While my hair is fine, I have plenty of it. So I separate my hair into sections leaving the bottom half down. I start on one side, and wrap small sections around a 1.5-inch curling wand. I lack the coordination to use a curling iron with any success. So, trust me, a wand is that much easier if you are new to this. Most people alternate curling towards and away from your face. I actually curl each section in the same pattern to create that deep wave. And... I curl right down to the ends! Gasp. I know. Most stylists say to avoid curling the ends and even suggest straightening the ends afterwards. Once you have finished curling all the sections, let your hair cool.

Brush out curls to add movement
Say what? Yes, you just did all this work and now you are going to rush a brush through it. Your fingers will work just as well too. I start at the roots and work through my hair to loosen the curls into waves. This is the perfect way to infuse movement and natural texture into your hairstyle.

Set with hairspray
After I’ve tousled up my waves, I lightly spray Nexxus Comb Thru Finishing Mist to create a bit more volume. This product is lightweight and gives you just enough hold. But the best part is you can comb through it to refresh your style or change up your look the next day.
