Blood Orange, Rosemary + Honey Soda

Blood Orange Honey Soda
A couple years ago I got a Soda Stream for my birthday. I wasn’t convinced at the time that I would use it much. But now I really do love having it. As a healthier alternative, I make my own syrups with freshly squeezed fruit juice and herbs. On this gorgeous spring day I was sitting down to read the new issue of Porter when I felt like having a bubbly drink. I combined the flavours of blood orange, rosemary and honey to make this fresh sparkling soda. The recipe is below. Cheers!

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed blood orange juice (approximately 3-4 blood oranges)

  • 4 tablespoons honey rosemary simple syrup (you can adjust this to your taste)

  • ice cubes

  • sparkling water

Honey-Rosemary Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup honey

  • 1 cup water

  • 4 sprigs fresh rosemary (you can substitute with thyme as well!)

1. Bring the water and honey to a boil in a saucepan. Add three sprigs of rosemary. Thyme is a lovely substitute as well! Set aside to cool on the stove for fifteen minutes and then discard the rosemary.

2. In a pitcher, combine the blood orange juice and sparkling water. Add the simple syrup to taste. You may prefer it sweeter or not. Poor over ice into glasses and garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig. Enjoy!
