Son of a Peach

On the edge of Burlington’s historic Village Square is Son of a Peach, a modern mom and pop pizzeria serving handcrafted pizza made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Lit up above the main window is a neon heart and a pizza slice. It was love at first sight when I first discovered the pizzeria with its whimsical decor and artwork. And then love at first bite when I tried their pizza.

After studying at the Culinary School of America and specializing in Slow Food at the Istituto Superiore di Gastronomia in Italy, Bart Nadherny worked as the Head Pizza Chef at Matchbox in Washington, D.C.  This past May, he and wife Kimberley Ly placed roots in Burlington with their neighbourhood pizzeria and have been charming the city with their creative energy. Son of a Peach crafts simple, seasonal shared plates and pizzas using only the freshest ingredients. Kimberley even went so far as to show me the space in the kitchen where the freezer had been removed. The small menu changes daily. You'll find dishes like melons and feta -- a mix of cantaloupe, watermelon, feta, thai basil and wild honey, alongside pizzas dressed with black California figs, roasted garlic and ricotta, prosciutto, baby arugula and mozzarella. My personal favourite is the Spicy Salami & Wild Honey pie, with house made tomato sauce, spicy dry cured salami, wild honey, whole milk and virgin mozzarella. And the garlic knots, those are a must try.

Kimberley an Bart are next to impossible to pin down for an interview. Even though I can't share their story the way I normally would, I can say that Son of a Peach has the best pizza, possibly ever. And for that I will keep going back.
