One of the most treasured pieces in my closet, this vintage Yves Saint Laurent coat has a timeless elegance. The sweeping silhouette pairs well with simple separates. The oversized proportions are perfect for layering underneath. A true investment piece, this style will work with pretty much everything in my wardrobe for seasons to come.

Over the past couple years, I've really come into my own style. Years of experimenting (and cringing when looking back) has shown me that the pieces I love are streamlined and understated, but luxurious. I buy better, and I buy less now. I discovered this coat seven years ago in a vintage shop in Montreal, shortly after taking in the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. It was a pretty penny at the time, but I wasn't willing to leave town without it. And I'm glad I bought it, because I wear it more and more each year. For this look, I balanced the proportions of the coat with tapered Céline trousers, a KOTN tank and leather flats by Everlane

We took these photos outside one of my very favourite buildings in Hamilton. A pre-confederation stone building then known as the Commercial Block, Coppley has been creating tailored men's clothing out of this space for over 120 years. It seemed the perfect backdrop for a coat that too, has stood the test of time.
