With every new season, I find myself looking to redecorate. And with so many great DIY ideas out there, you can update a room without spending a ton. Why not transform one of your dated or old pieces of furniture with a fun DIY project? A fresh new look awaits that dresser if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and pick up a paint brush.

Ottawa Street is the perfect place to find vintage gems, along with beautiful fabrics and paint to give your furniture finds a fresh new look.

The Painted Bench, a cute shop that opened this past summer is the retail venture of Nicole Poirier-Wyss and Melanie Anderson. The owners connected via Facebook over their love of salvaging furniture and Chalk Paint.

It's a fitting story really, with design blogs and sites like Pinterest offering a way for design enthusiasts to link up and exchange ideas and inspiration.

Loved by designers and DIY-ers, Chalk Paint is known for its simplicity, versatility and variances in colour. And it's simple to use. Chalk paint adheres to a wide range of surfaces, so you can skip the sanding process. And since the paint dries quickly, you can finish a piece in a day. Nicole and Melanie have stocked the shop with a wide colour range of Chalk Paint and Milk Paint products from the lines of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint,  Homestead House Paints and Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint.  They offer thoughtful advice to customers who are considering refurbishing a piece and offer workshops for those interested in a 101 on using Chalk Paint and Milk Paint products from the shop.

I've been on the hunt for a solid wood dresser that I can refinish for our bedroom. And when I find it, I've already got a Chalk Paint colour in mind. Paris Grey.
